Theater
I’m ashamed to admit that the one and only time I went to a play was back in 2007. My class went on a field trip to Nizhny Novgorod to watch a play at the Youth Theater. Don’t ask me what play it was — I have no recollection of it and don’t even remember if I liked it. So, obviously it didn’t make a lasting impression on me. Ever since then I’ve never been into theater. It always seemed to be something boring, something for adults.
In 2016, having become a fan of the Harry Potter series, I was lucky enough to get to see the original edition of the last book at Singer House in Saint Petersburg right after it was released. To my surprise, it turned out to be not a novel, but a play. Since then, watching Harry Potter and the Cursed Child became my dream.
You should have seen my disappointment last year when I was standing by the Lyric Theatre (home to the multi-award winning show) on Broadway, admiring the sign but having no ticket because the ticket prices were sky high. But I will definitely be back.
Despite having so little theater experience, I can say that my favorite things about it would be:
- the suspense before the opening of stage curtains
- the reflection of a spectacular play sign in a Broadway puddle
- the culmination of the cast’s hard work in one night
